About Sally Herring - Certified Masterson Method® Practitioner
Welcome to Cloud Nine Equine! I’m Sally Herring, a certified practitioner in the internationally acclaimed equine bodywork modality, The Masterson Method®. As the sole practitioner (MMCP) at Cloud Nine Equine, I’m dedicated to helping your horse move more comfortably and smoothly. What is The Masterson Method®?
The Masterson Method® is an integrated equine bodywork modality designed to improve your horse’s performance and wellbeing. This process involves several steps to ensure a comprehensive assessment and treatment.
Step 1: Initial Consultation We begin with a conversation. I’ll ask questions to understand what prompted you to seek a Masterson Method® practitioner. As the owner, trainer, or rider, you know your horse best. Your observations, feelings, and even ‘hunches’ about your horse’s condition are invaluable. Together, we will complete a comprehensive background assessment, considering everything from tack to toes to teeth. We will incorporate information from veterinarians, dentists, farriers, saddle fitters, and other bodyworkers like chiropractors, masseuses, or acupuncturists.
Step 2: Assessment by Touch Next, I will assess your horse through touch, palpation, and observation. I look for obvious signs of discomfort, such as pulling away from contact, snatching the leg, or flattened ears, as well as subtle signals like blinking, lip quivers, ear twitches, chewing, shifting weight, or slight changes in croup position. Your horse communicates through these signals, and my job is to listen beneath the surface responses that can mask discomfort.
Step 3: The Session With our assessment complete, we begin the bodywork session. It’s important that you review the Session Preparation guide to get your horse and the environment ready. After the session, we will develop an ongoing action plan tailored to your horse’s needs.
Why Choose The Masterson Method®? This bodywork can provide lasting relief for various issues, including ‘mystery hind-end lameness.’ However, a problem is not a prerequisite for a session. Many owners simply want to give their horse a ‘spa day’ to show appreciation for the joy they bring.
Setting Realistic Expectations It’s important to have realistic expectations. Some performance issues are not correctable due to biomechanics, conformational, or systemic problems. While treatment can help, it may not change certain conditions. However, exploring all options before making life-changing decisions for your horse is crucial. The Masterson Method® can provide valuable insights, even if the problem is beyond correction.
My Promise to You I promise to be honest about your horse’s condition and potential outcomes. While it’s disappointing if a problem is beyond correction, knowing that you explored every possibility is crucial. The Masterson Method® can help you understand your equine partner in a new light.
